International health insurance

Having the wrong health insurance policy can leave your employees vulnerable and your business exposed.

Although there is no statutory obligation to provide employee's health insurance cover when working overseas, responsible employers recognise the need to ensure that, their employees have access to appropriate healthcare plans and medical attention.

In Europe, the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) allows travellers access to the same state-provided healthcare as a resident of the country visited. However, many countries expect the patient to pay towards their treatment. The EHIC will not cover any private medical care or repatriation for a medical emergency.

Elsewhere in the world, costs of treatment vary considerably between countries and repatriation or medical evacuation can cost many thousands of dollars, regardless of location.
